If you’re not in peak physical condition, or if your shopping experience leaves you carrying numerous packages, there’s good news – the St. Matthews Holiday Walk actually offers free trolley rides between shops and businesses located in the heart of St. Matthews.
This year’s event will kick off on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 5 to 9 p.m., and then will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. each Saturday until Christmas.
Trolleys run every 15 minutes, with nine stops along the route that runs through an area bordered by St. Matthews Avenue to the east, Macon Avenue off Lexington Road to the west, Willis Avenue to the south, and along Chenoweth Lane to the north.
Many of the merchants along the way will offer refreshments and hors d’oeuvres during the event.
Stops include the Burdorf building, The Colony Center, Chenoweth Square, the Chenoweth Lane corridor with numerous boutiques, St. Matthews Feed & Seed, the intersection of Lexington Road and Macon Avenue, the Wallace Center on Wallace Avenue, St. Matthews Station and along Willis Avenue.
More than 30 businesses – everything from retailers and restaurants to orthodontists and funeral homes – have signed on as sponsors of the walk.
The participating merchants will accept donations of canned goods and toys for St. Matthews Area Ministries.
