LOUISVILLE, KY May 10, 2005- Join us in honoring Adele and Leonard Leight at
AfterHours at the Speed on Thursday, May 19 at 6 p.m. Special guests, glass
artist, Steven Rolfe Powell; Decorative Arts Curator, Scott Erbes and
University of Louisville glass professor, Che Rhodes will be on hand to
celebrate Selections from the Adele and Leonard Leight Glass Collection now
on view. This month's tasting series features Cosmopolitans with Finlandia
Vodka. There will also be complimentary appetizers from Liquor Barn, live
music from Kimmit & Doug, a cash bar and tours of the museum. Admission to
AfterHours is $5, free for museum members.
Since 1992, Adele and Leonard Leight-prominent collectors of contemporary
studio glass since the late 1960s-have given the Speed an interest in over
300 objects from their nationally recognized collection. Their remarkable
generosity over the past thirteen years has transformed the Speed, providing
the museum with one of the country's most important holdings of contemporary
glass as well as with distinguished examples of contemporary ceramics and
earlier twentieth-century design. Literally hundreds of exhibitions could be
drawn from their vast collection. A diverse cross-section is now on view in
the Speed's decorative arts gallery.
Brown-Forman Corp. is the sponsor of the Brown-Forman Tasting Series and

supplemental sponsor for May.
Parking is available at the Speed's parking garage, located adjacent to the
museum. Access to the parking garage is available from Third Street.

Founded in 1927, The Speed Art Museum has over 13,000 pieces in its
collection spanning 6,000 years, ranging from ancient Egyptian to
contemporary art. The Museum has distinguished collections of 17th century
Dutch and Flemish painting; 18th century French art; Renaissance and Baroque
tapestries; and significant holdings of contemporary painting and sculpture.
African and Native American works are also represented in the Museum's
collection. "Passport to the Speed," an audio-guide of selected works in the
permanent collection, is available for a rental fee of $3 at the museum's
Welcome Center.
The Speed Art Museum is located at 2035 South Third Street in Louisville.
Other features of the museum include a hands-on Art Learning Center for
families, a cafe and gift shop. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and
Friday 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday
10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. The museum is closed
