To provide support for the Louisville Deaf Oral School and to promote “Behind Closed Doors II,” the coffee-table book that is a fund-raiser for the school, UBS, one of Louisville’s leading stock brokerage firms, entertained some of its clients at back-to-back cocktail parties last weekend.

Ed and Mary Nassief and John and Sallie Cunningham hosted Ron McMakin, Marie and Ronnie Abrams, Elaine Richardson and Wayne Wells, Angela and Marty Arnett, and Marilyn Frankenberger.

Artist Mike and Barbara Carter were very interesting. She had fascinating stories to tell about her business trips to China, where she has taught the Chinese how to make large hand-carved and hand-gilded picture frames for her business. Once they are completed, she brings them back to this country and sells them to artists. She speaks no Chinese but lives with the family that owns the factory when she is there.

Carol and Charlie Hebel, Lori and Marty McClelland, Helen and Ed Rhawn, Sandy and Dave Snowden, Particia and Mike Vairin, Penn and Pat Broecker, Kelly and Jerry O’Daniel, Mollie and Russell Smith, and Lindy and Bill Street joined the party goers.

The Schusters, Elsie and Irving and Cathy and Lon, were there too. Cute Elsie is always up for a party.

The guests were all presented with a gift copy of the new book authored by June Tafel with photographs by Stephen Driver, both of whom were on hand to socialize and sign the books.
