This week/files/storyimages/represents the return of the KentuckyMuscle Strength & Fitness Extravaganza to the Kentucky International Convention Center.  Expected to have over 500 contestants in the various competitions over the 2-day span, this event draws athletes from not only a regional aspect, but international as well.

With contests this year including Body Building & Figure Fitness, the hope is to expand and bring Powerlifting, and Armwrestling to the competition.  While there are events like this around the country, Promoter Brent Jones says that Louisville’s “central location makes it a perfect place for this type of event and this is evident by the amount of competitors.  For example, the IFBB Pro Figure has drawn the most competitors than any other IFBB figure competition in the world”

The event kicks off Friday, with prejudging for the athletes beginning at 7:00 pm.  The tickets for Friday's event are $10, with the athletes continuing tomorrow beginning at 11:00 am at an entry cost of $15.  The event finishes out Saturday evening with the finals of the competition at 7:00 pm as the tickets for the finals are $25.

Local resident and first time competitor Beth King says she got into figure competitions after “walking into Metamorphosis gym and seeing my trainer’s (Natalie Barnett) trophies.  I asked her if she thought I could do it too.  She sat down and asked me what my goals were and we went from there.”

As for people looking to get into figure competitions, King recommends it, as she intends to make this the first of many competitions in the future.  She began her training for this week/files/storyimages/back in January, starting with weightlifting.  Then, four months ago she began restricting her diet, intensifying her cardio training and lifting more and more weight.  According to King, the hardest part is the diet limitations and the self control this training requires.

While the extreme training required may not be for the average individual, this event certainly is.  According to Jones, the IFBB Pro Figure Competition Finals is the highlight of the week/files/storyimages/(Saturday evening), so if you can’t train with them, you can come and cheer them on!
