An effort is currently being made to obtain a Share the Road specialty license plate for Kentucky. In order for plate production to begin, 900 applications must be received by September, 1, 2005. This would allow for the plate to be introduced into circulation on January 1, 2006.
The Share the Road license plate will cost the same as an initial standard issue plate. STR plate holders will be able to make a voluntary contribution to the Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeway Commission (KBBC) when they initially pick up their plate and/or when they renew their plate. Money generated for the KBBC will be used to advance the safety of the traveling public. Safer roads will in turn advocate recreation, alternative transportation, and tourism in our state.
