If your New Year’s resolutions include eating healthier, supporting education and making a difference in your community, make sure to mark your calendar for the Salvation Army Culinary Training Fundraiser at Winston’s restaurant at Sullivan University on Tuesday, February 10. Sullivan University graduate and Salvation Army Culinary Training Director Timothy Tucker will be presenting a four-course dinner to celebrate the three year anniversary of the program. The dinner, which is alcohol free and focused on Tucker’s healthful cooking philosophy, starts at 6 p.m. and costs $100. Proceeds from the dinner will go toward establishing similar culinary training programs in Salvation Army branches in other areas of the country. For reservations, please call Lauren Goldberg at 502-381-0017.
The Salvation Army Culinary Training program empowers aspiring chefs with the skills they need to make a new start and improve their lives. Chef Tucker not only teaches cooking methods, but also the importance of using local products and integrating healthy ingredients into one’s diet. Tucker credits John Castro, Sullivan University faculty member, executive chef of Winston’s and one of his culinary mentors, for motivating him to help others develop their creative skills.
“Chef Castro always told me that everyone has greatness in them that they can tap into with a little hard work,” says Tucker. “The students in the Salvation Army program have overcome many obstacles to develop their talents, and they inspire me every day. It’s so exciting to be working alongside chef Castro on an event that will help expand our efforts in helping people jump start their own careers.”
