The Louisville Ballet closes the season with Adam Hougland's powerful interpretation of Rite of Spring and the Company Premiere of The Kingdom of the Shades from La Bayadère. Set to Igor Stravinsky's groundbreaking and challenging score, Hougland creates an intriguing 21st-century view of a group grappling with the stark realties that surround them.

La Bayadère, a rarely performed work by Marius Petipa, recounts the tragic love story of Solor and Nikiya, an Indian temple dancer (a bayadère). In this third act – The Kingdom of the Shades – Solor dreams of being reunited with his beloved Nikiya after she dies from a poisonous snake bite. Lush patterns created by the corps de ballet will envelop and transport you to this faraway land.
