The Red & Black Ball – for the love of Harriett is a black-tie gala and silent auction benefiting the Harriett B. Porter Cancer Education and Prevention Programs at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville.
Harriett was a lifelong Louisville resident, wife, mother, and community volunteer. A former teacher and breast cancer survivor, she promoted cancer prevention and early detection as well as supported newly diagnosed women. Harriett was particularly vocal in encouraging African American women to get screened for breast cancer - a disease she was first diagnosed with while still in her 30s. She was also a founding member of the Regional Cancer Center Corporation, a nonprofit citizens’ board that helped open the Brown Cancer Center in 1981.
Proceeds from the Red & Black Ball – for the love of Harriett will have a direct impact on the health and well being of our community. Your participation will help make Harriett’s dream of saving lives through early detection a reality.
The third annual Red & Black Ball will take place on February 7, 2009. Tickets are $250 for individuals. Sponsorships are available at a variety of levels. For information on the 2009 Red & Black Ball, please contact Beth Hobson at (502) 562-4651 or beth.hobson@louisville.edu.
