I’m tired. I have homework. I have deadlines. My personal life is complicated. Blarg. Are the bells going off in your head? Did I just reach through the ether and make a small, little bubble of human connection with you? The experience of life doesn’t need to be lofty to have depth, my friends. It certainly helps, of course, but the Everyman in all of us is easier to find than most of us really care to think. Whomever You happen to be – you somewhere on your computery-thing – we are probably kindred souls on some level or another. It’s the outer layers – those cute, little facades – that prevent most people from connecting. The same can be said for poetry. Does a writer need heavy metaphor, meter and coat upon coat of allusion to have meaning? No. But, again, it can help. Make the connection for yourself this weekend as a host of local poets converge on A Reader’s Corner Bookstore for An Evening of Poetry.
In a befitting celebration for the first day of Fall (I, as any consistent reader can vouch, find Fall quite poetic), A Reader’s Corner Bookstore will feature five local poets this Saturday, September 22nd. Starting at 5:30pm, words from the voices of Tom Gibbs, Jim McGarrah, Danny O’Bryan, Brent Eugene Ralph and Ron Whitehead will take center stage in a free display of local literary flavor – and surely some bona fide human connection.
Axioms may not be so trite as they seem; words of wisdom can sometimes be imparted from unexpected sources. Feeling the distance of modern ennui? Let the lips of our local bards speak to you this weekend. Those deadlines may still loom and the cure for your curious cocktail of living may remain unknown, but whatever layers, tiers or barriers that be will hopefully melt away under the purr of poetic license.
