    Bit to Do

I’m setting a Life Goal today, kittens.  Today – December 14th, 2012 – I am going to waste only one (1) paragraph of this article on non-relevant topics.

Listen: On December 19th, 2012 (this upcoming Wednesday) I have an appointment.  That sounds very official.  I should wear a blazer and put on lipstick to go along with the phrase “I have an appointment”.  But the formality of the Goings-On Of This Engagement ends immediately after the prearranged time and place.  Because I am having soul surgery.  There will be actual needles involved.  I am going to be laced with ink.  A tattoo.  Tattoo therapy, as I like to say.  I’ll get mated up to a buzzing machine and just fall away into that hazy watercolor place of oxytocin as Henry Miller is forever stitched into my skin.  This is a not-at-all-formal experience; this is actually quite intimate.  There is flesh involved.

And, yes, I did say Henry Miller.

(I would like to point out that I have now used up my one (1) wasted and non-relevant paragraph.  Failure is a legitimate risk of setting Life Goals)

I’m paying someone to pump my body full of ink in the shape of letters that Henry Miller once arranged in a way that I find striking and perfect.  Simplified: I am getting a Henry Miller quote tattooed on my forearm.  I’m exceedingly happy about it.  If you do not know Henry Miller then just go away from me, ye swine, forever and now (that’s hyperbolic; I don’t really mean that).  Henry Miller is the greatest writer that ever covered this Earth in his messy shark attack of genius.  You’ll never be more important than him.  And he moves me.  He is my soul-mate.  And I am in no way, shape or form embarrassed by how purple I can gush over him, how waxy I can wax poetic, how deep-water blue in love he makes me feel.  He deserves my arm.  I give it freely.

Words have the power to do that – the power to make a lifelong literary marriage between Erin Day and Henry Miller.  Words have power because words are powerful (a shocking declaration).  And those that wield them?  They’re holding lightning bolts.

Sharks?  Lightning?  What can we say, here?  Language is deadly beautiful.  Writers are deadly compelling.

So, there’s a high probability of some intense electricity crackling around your person if you happen to be at A Reader’s Corner Bookstore tomorrow – December 15th, 2012 (a Saturday) – at 11am.  There are going to be a lot of writers being deadly compelling.  And, thus, a lot of words doing a lot of deadly beautiful.  Join the publishing house Black Wyrm Press tomorrow morning as a host of their published authors combine forces for a special reading and signing.

Featuring L. Andrew Cooper (Burning Middle Ground), Ian Harac (The Rainbow Connection), Christopher Kokoski (Dark Halo), Andrew Toy (The Man in the Box), Jason Walters (The Vast White) and Michael Williams (Trajan’s Arch), the band of merry writers will treat guests to selections from their work until 12:30pm.  Copies of their featured and respective books will also be on sale.

That was a lot of paragraphs.  That was a lot of Failure At Meeting My Goals in the form of a lot paragraphs.  That was also ok – because paragraphs are made of sentences, and sentences are made of words, and words are made of language, and language – as we know – is the radioactive jet-fuel that brightens everything on the planet.  So, this Failed Article?   It’s ready to be seen from outer space.  And that’s just fine.

The quote is “I’m delirious because I’m dying so fast” if you wanted to know.

A Reader’s Corner Bookstore is located at 2044 Frankfort Avenue.

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
