Looking for a reason to celebrate Leap Year 2008?  What better way than to “flap” your way back to the 20’s, while
benefiting a great cause!  TSt John Center for the Homeless is  calling it “Raisin’ the Rent”, and it is inspired by the popular “rent parties” held in Harlem in the 1920’s and 30’s.  According to St John’s website about the parties: Friends would gather for games and dancing, charging a nominal fee at the door.  Funds raised would be given to a neighbor in danger of being evicted due to his or her inability to pay the rent.

This year for their Raisin the Rent party, the funds will benefit several programs for St John Center for the Homeless, including helping to defray costs associated with the transitional housing component of the Residential Recovery Program.

The cost is $15 at the door and includes dancing, gaming tables, and swingin’-themed prizes.  Featured music will be provided by Kimmet and Doug and Hay DJ.  There will also be food and snacks, a cash bar and plenty of entertainment for all.
