The Louisville Bats were pretty in pink. And powerful in it too.
Louisville continued its offensive onslaught for the second night in a row Saturday in a 16-5 victory over Rochester on a night the Bats sported pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness.
Louisville (10-19), which scored only 23 runs over the span of a recent nine-game losing streak, has scored 32 runs in two days and a whopping 55 this week, including Monday's 20-7 victory at Buffalo.
Daniel Dorn and Juan Francisco continued their marvelous Mays so far. Dorn went 4-for-5 with four RBIs against the Red Wings (12-17) to raise his average this month to .560, while Francisco went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in the first inning. That got the Bats' bats off and rolling as Louisville added two runs in the second, five in the third and six in the fourth.
That was more than enough for left-handed starter Travis Wood (1-3), who gave up eight runs and five earned runs but struck out seven over six innings.
Also for the Bats, Chris Valaika went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Corky Miller went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
The jerseys the Bats wore in their victory Saturday night were set to be autographed then auctioned off on the team's website (www.batsbaseball.com) with proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen for a Cure Foundation. The online auction of the jerseys will close at 8 p.m. May 16.
Louisville will be back in action Sunday as highly-touted left-handed pitching prospect Aroldis Chapman (2-1, 3.12 earned run average) will start for the Bats in their 2:05 p.m. game against Rochester. In honor of Mother's Day all ladies 18-and-older can purchase field reserve tickets for $1. Also the first 500 ladies through the gates will receive a free carnation, and after the game all mothers are welcome on the field to play catch with their sons and/or daughters.
