But as with Phase I, parking was the major concern of those present at the meeting.
"We can't afford to give up one space," said Audrey Owens, owner of St. Matthews Hair Styling on Wilmington Avenue.
Once again, Metro Government and the city of St. Matthews will partner on project costs with each paying for the portion within its borders.
Metro Government will be responsible for Breckenridge Lane from Dayton Avenue north to the Shelbyville Road intersection, Shelbyville Road from Breckenridge down Lexington Road to Wallace Avenue, Wallace Avenue between Wilmington Avenue and Lexington Road, and Wilmington Avenue between Shelbyville Road and Wallace Avenue.
The city of St. Matthews will pay for improvements along St. Matthews Avenue between Shelbyville Road and Westport Road, and along Chenoweth Lane north to Gilman Avenue.
As with Phase I, Phase II will include replacing existing sidewalks and adding landscaping.
Phase I construction, which covered the north and south sides of Shelbyville Road between Breckenridge Lane and Fairfax Avenue, cost Metro Government $150,000 and the city of St. Matthews about $175,000, said Drew Shryock, the Metro Development Authority official who is overseeing the project.
A cost estimate for Phase II will not be available until the Corradino Group creates a preliminary plan based on input it has received from area business and property owners, said Shryock.
