You know the holidays are soon upon us when the Louisville Antique Show comes to town. The Louisville Deaf Oral School benefit will be held at Louisville Gardens Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20 and 21.

On Friday, Nov. 19, there will be the eagerly anticipated patrons party that opens the show at 6 p.m. and runs to 10 p.m. It is a great cocktail party provided by the Silver Spoon.

Everyone who is somebody and some who are nobody show up for the evening. There will be 60 antique dealers and a gourmet cafe.

Douglas Riddle is the chairman of the event and Bittners and Fifth Third Bank are the primary sponsors. Aesthetics in Jewelry, H.J. Redmon, ReVive and the Silver Spoon also are sponsors.

Support also will be provided by Ben Small, Black & White Design, Cliff Todd, Douglas Riddle & Stephen Lewis, Fine Living Louisville Magazine, Greenbaum Doll & McDonald, Korfhage Landscape & Design, Louisville Antique Mall, Publishers Printing, Price Weber, Stinson-Lewis Foundation, USA Image technologies, Viacom Outdoor, and the vimarc group.

Ben Small, longtime supporter of the LDOS and longtime VP of Bittners, is the honorary chairman of the show.

An exciting aspect of the show is the appearance of Wes Cowan, an internationally recognized expert in historic Americana. Wes stars on the PBS TV series “History Detectives” and is a featured appraiser on “Antiques Roadshow.

He will be the guest appraiser at the antique show on Nov. 20 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Each person buying a ticket to the antique show may bring up to two items for a free verbal appraisal at those times.

Wes is a native of Louisville, and is the brother of Fred Cowan.
