Papa John's International is donating $10 million toward the expansion of the University of Louisville football stadium that bears the pizza company name.

It's the single largest gift ever made to U of L Athletics and brings to $22 million the total support it has received in the past ten years from the company, its founder John Schnatter and his wife, Annette.

U of L wants to expand Papa John's Cardinal Stadium from its current capacity of 42,000 to about 63,000. The $65 million project would also add 45 new luxury suites and other amenities.

The school is trying to collect half of the project's cost from private sources. The Kentucky General Assembly has yet to approve public funding for the expansion.

U of L Athletic Director Tom Jurich says that likely means the expansion won't be complete until 2010 at the earliest.
