A Central State Hospital nurse has been arrested on charges he assaulted a patient at Kentucky's main mental health facility.

37-year-old Sheldon Jones was under contract to provide care and treatment for mentally disabled residents at Central State Hospital.

According to the indictment, Jones is accused of attempting to suffocate a 48-year-old patient, striking the patient in the head with his fist, and twisting the patient's arms and legs into unnatural positions.

Jones' employment at Central State was terminated after the investigation into the allegations against him began.

Jones is in custody under a $25,000 cash bond.

If convicted on the charges against him Jones could face up to ten years in prison.
