While most businesses and families are embracing the holiday season, others are working hard to give to the less fortunate. Despite their effort, supplies at local food banks are
dwindling; couple this with numerous economic issues and discover that the act of giving to charities is gaining importance this holiday season. For the fourth consecutive year, the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) is doing its part to give
back to the local and regional community during its show on November 8-21 at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

The show's annual Sale of Champions auction, Nov. 20, will generously donate 10 percent of its sales to the "Blessings in a Backpack" program to feed area schoolchildren. "Blessings in a Backpack" is a charitable program of Kentucky Harvest, a Louisville-based outreach organization that helps feed the hungry in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Since 2005, the auction has donated nearly $30,000 to the charity.

During the passionately entertaining North American Championship Rodeo, rugged competitors will be able to prove that they are "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" on Nov. 14. Cowboys and cowgirls will put up their rodeo garb for pink clothing to support breast cancer research. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the effort of finding a cure for the disease which affects millions. In addition, the local Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation volunteers will be selling pink wristbands and providing information about breast cancer.
