Thomas Edison House says that tickets are now on sale for the Edison Extravaganza, an important fund-raising event for the museum.  Now in its 11th year, the Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2007 from 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. at Whitehall House and Gardens, 3110 Lexington Road, Louisville, Kentucky. This event is supported by Highland Cleaners and the Louisville Bedding Company. 

            Guests will get into the holiday spirit during this festive evening, with the backdrop of one of Louisville’s most elegant historic homes dressed for the season. Attendees are invited to peruse and bid on an array of tempting silent auction items, including park-hopper passes to Walt Disney World, a hot-air balloon ride, a private wine-tasting at Felice Vineyards, and much more.  The evening will culminate with a raffle drawing for a trip for four to Disney World’s Saratoga Springs Resort and a thrilling live auction! 

            The Extravaganza has traditionally raised approximately 50% of the annual operating and programming budget for Thomas Edison House, a historic house and museum owned and operated by the not-for-profit Historic Homes Foundation, Inc.  Just after the Civil War, Thomas Alva Edison rented a room in this house while working as a telegraph operator for Western Union during the years 1866 and 1867.  Today the museum displays a diverse collection of Thomas Edison related artifacts and has welcomed visitors from every state in the Union and 47 different countries.

            Tickets for the Edison Extravaganza are available for advance purchase for $50/person.  Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $60/person.  Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance or at the event for $20/each.  The winner will be announced on the night of December 8th at the Extravaganza.  Winner need not be present to win.  Cash, check, Visa or MasterCard accepted.  For more information or to purchase tickets for either event or raffle, please call the museum at (502) 585-5247 or email at edisonhouse@edisonhouse.org.
