On Wednesday, November 5, “Moving Moods,” a new kind of wellness fair, will use demonstration and participation to encourage physical activity as a way to relieve depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Demonstrations in a wide variety of exercise techniques on two separate stages can help you find the style that fits you the most. During each 40-minute section listed*, the leader(s) will give background information, demonstrate the movements and engage willing onlookers in learning basics of the movement demonstrated. Styles to be demonstrated include kettlebells, martial arts, yoga, fencing, belly-dancing, hip-hop, FitKids and more. 9:10 to 9:50 a.m. Zumba!- Karin Klein, Urban Active Tae Kwan Do- Open Hand Method - Dr. Hieu Tran, Dean, SU College of Pharmacy 10:10 to 10:50 a.m. Cardio Kickboxing - Urban Active Flamenco Dancing - Diana Dinicola 11:10 to 11:50 a.m. Stepping - by Sullivan Steppers (Kim Fleming, Coordinator) Family Exercising - Amy Oetken, FitKids, Milestone Wellness Center 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Hooping - Rebecca Hellemans Kettlebells and Joint Mobility - Dave Randoph, Ironbody Fitness (Kentuckiana CrossFit) 1:10 to 1:50 p.m. Belly Dancing - Ruric-Amari Tai Chi - Dave Randoph, Ironbody Fitness (Kentuckiana CrossFit) 2:10 to 2:50 p.m. Fencing - Ben Marine Patanajli Yoga - Dr. Yashanti Pathak & Seema Pathak, Health Synergy Special service booths will be open throughout the event. Baptist Hospital East will be on-hand to provide research on the relationship between exercise and mood, and other ways to address mood disorders. Therapists from Restoration House will do free, confidential screenings for depression and anxiety. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Guests from off-campus can check in at the Administration Building and get a bracelet for entry to the two stages.
