The Sullivan University Wellness Center will be hosting a mood-screening program specifically developed by the Behavior Health Department at Baptist Hospital East to show how to use physical activity to monitor and improve both physical and mental health. It will be a free, fun and a real MOVING kind of day.
The event will take place Tuesday, November 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Sullivan Louisville campus, 3101 Bardstown Road.
Exercise and depression research shows that almost anybody can benefit from exercise. It has also demonstrated that exercise helps to elevate mood quickly and the improvements may last for months.
You will discover for yourself how to use physical activity to monitor and improve both physical and mental health.
The process will begin with pre-screenings for glucose level and mood depression/anxiety. Participants will then engage in 20-30 minutes of physical activity under the direction of Sunshine Wellness trainer Susan Wisman who will lead a distinct activity starting at the top of each hour.
9:00 Gentle Yoga
10:00 Aerobics
11:00 Core Combo (abs & more)
12:00 Strength & Stretch (A Total Body Workout)
1:00 Aerobics
2:00 Yoga
Post-screenings will follow.
Spencerian School of Nursing will assist Mike O’Reilly, Health Services Coordinator at Sullivan Louisville, in conducting the glucose tests. Members of the Behavior Health Department at Baptist Hospital East will pair the individuals’ pre and post screenings so they can see what happens to the body and mood with exercise. Baptist Hospital East developed the mood screenings precisely for this program.
For those looking for a less formal approach, staff from the Blairwood Tennis Swim & Fitness Club will be in the campus Café leading exercises at 10,11, noon, and 1 o’clock, a total of four activity sessions.
No glucose testing will be offered in the Café but the mood screenings will be available to those who ask. Nancy Waters, LCSW, from the Old Louisville Counseling Center, will be here to administer the pre and post mood screenings to you to see if you can change your mood level.
Whether or not you opt for the screening procedures in either room 121 or the Café, you can certainly engage in the activities.
