Moore's DeOndre McWhorter is one of the top prospects in Region Seven. The 6-foot-9 center continues to work on his game and it's paying off. I caught up with Moore coach Larry Miller at the Derek Smith Shootout and spoke with him about his player.

McWhorter's made a name for himself last season , when put up a triple-double against Shawnee. In that game he scored 13 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked 12 shots.

"He's a really good shot blocker," Miller said. "he is still developing his game. He has to learn to come to play every night. He is playing with the Derek Smith All Stars this summer and the coaches have really been working with him on his post moves and his post moves have gotten a lot better."

McWhorter's offensive game is still developing but he is outstanding on defense.

"He blocked nearly 200 shots this season," Miler said. "He's great on defense. His offensive game is still developing but he has a lot of potential."

McWhorter hasn't received a lot of interest from colleges yet but Miller feels if he continues to work on hard on the court and in the classroom that could change.

"He hasn't gotten much interest yet," Miller said. "Some junior colleges have sent letters but he still has some work to do on his grades too. He is a smart kid but he has to work a little bit harder. If he improves the way I think he will, he has the chance to be a really good player."

Moore should be one of the top teams in a very deep 7th Region. They had an great showing last week in the Derek Smith Shootout. Along with McWhorter coach Miller and the Mustangs also return Mekale McKay. Jeffersontown and Eastern appear to be the teams to beat in the 7th Region.
