It's been a little over one hundred days since Greg Fischer has been in office as Louisville's new mayor. One key aspect I've been watching for is if Mayor Fischer will engage and use social media as a platform to communicate and engage the local community.

After an intial tweet to Mayor Fischer, a few weeks after he took office as Louisville's new mayor, about whether or not he'll be leveraging Twitter and not hearing a response back, I almost gave up hope; but not entirely.

I do understand there are a lot of tasks a newly elected mayor must accomplish in his first one hundred days so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I've been actively watching his (official) Twitter account and it seems that the Mayor has been taking an active role in Twitter and engaging the local community. Below are a few tweets from the Mayor himself:

"I'm sorry you're disappointed. Please send me a direct email and let me know what you are looking for or would like to see improved."

"please send me a direct message and let me know what you are experiencing with bedbugs. I will look into NYC's ordinance."

"Thanks for your vote of confidence RT @rynedunk:i'm holding @louisvillemayor twitter acct in higher regard. i think he can do better."

"Please spread the word to your fellow Louisvillians, and even Louisville expats, to follow my page. I want to be hear from you."

Needless to say, I'm quite impressed and pleased that Mayor Fischer is leveraging social media as a platform to engage the community. I look forward to his tweets about Louisville happenings and answering questions and concerns that are directed to him and his team. You can connect with Mayor Greg Fischer on Twitter by his username: @LouisvilleMayor

At the time this article is published (approximately 1:45pm EST), Mayor Fischer has about 452 followers. Let's see if we can make it to 1,000 by the end of the day.
