Former police officer McKenzie Mattingly will not rejoin the Metro Police Department.
Mattingly has agreed to /files/storyimages/his legal appeals based on an agreement with Metro Government.
The former officer will receive over $59,000 in back pay.
A spokesperson for Mayor Abramson...Chad Carlton...says this will prevent what would have been a lengthy and costly legal battle.
Police Chief Robert White fired Mattingly following an internal investigation of the fatal shooting of Michael Newby in January 2004.
The Louisville Metro Government has offered a settlement to the family of Michael Newby in their civil lawsuit...and both parties have agreed to mediation.
