How did the Amazing Race experience effect your relationship? I read in the previews that you guys were sure you’d be able to stick together no matter what and that would give you an edge...how were you able to do that?
Vyxsin: We’ve always been incredibly close, but this brought us even closer. We knew going into it that there would be frustrations, but we’re always a team, not just on the show, but in life. We tackle things together and never waste time or energy bickering with each other. Some times people /files/storyimages/up going against themselves instead of the challenge that’s facing them and that just makes it harder.
How do you deal with negativity?
Kynt: We just try to stay positive, I know people often associate Goth with gloom and doom and that’s just not us, we are very optimistic people. We look for the good in people and just try to overlook the cruelty that comes from ignorance. We were prepared for some negativity so it really doesn’t phase us, however we do hope to dispel some misconceptions as people see the show. We’re insightful, intelligent people who like having fun and want others to have fun too.
Vyxsin: We’re too busy to worry about that stuff. We just are who we are and hope that when people see the show they will have an open mind and not let their preconceptions alter their view of who we really are.
Who/ what inspires you?
Kynt: We’ve both worked really hard to make the goth scene more acceptable. We really are social butterflies, or bats! We love bringing people together, it makes us feel good to give something back to our community.
Vyxsin: We love being involved in promoting events and bringing people together. We never want anyone to feel left out. That’s what so great about Louisville, there’s a strong sense of community and there is room for everyone. My dad was in the army so we moved around alot when I was younger and I was the perpetual new kid. I always had that desire to feel like I belonged somewhere but never really did...that’s one reason Kynt and I feel so strongly about getting involved and making everyone feel like they can be a part of whatever is going on and why we’ve worked so hard to expand the Goth scene here in Louisville.
Both of you have travelled extensively, how did being Amazing Race participants change the way you interacted with locals in the areas where the challenges took place?
Kynt: The Amazing Race takes great care to ensure that everyone involved in the project understands the importance of being culture sensitive. They want to make it the best experience possible for the participants as well as the people who live in the areas we traveled to. Each area has their own ways and it’s so important to be respectful of that.
How were you perceived? Did the locals seem to be glad you were there?
Kynt: I think our appearances worked in our favor...we look fun, so people gravitate to us, they want to find out what we’re all about.
Vyxsin: We want people to understand we don’t look like this to scare you, we look like this to make you smile.
Kynt: Yeah, we don’t want to push people away, we want to bring you forward. We never want anyone to feel left out. I think we put off a friendly aura.
Would you ever do another reality show? (They both laugh.)
Kynt: Never say never!
Vyxsin: We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next!
