Smoke is still billowing from GE's Appliance Park after a massive fire broke out this morning. Though the cause of the fire remains unknown, the GE building appears to be completely destroyed. The property has been evacuated and as of yet no one is reported to be injured. However, due to the smoke, residents within a half mile of the blaze have been ordered to stay inside. A shelter is also in place. Firefighters are on the scene now, as multiple crews battle the flames. Fire, smoke and debris can be seen from miles away. In some places, ash is even falling from the sky.
Additionally, Louisvillians have been fighting a heavy downpour of rain since last night, causing many homes and streets to be flooded. The high water has resulted in numerous emergency rescues. As a result of the flooding and GE Appliance Park fire, many area schools are closed or on delay. Including the Louisville Zoo, which has also closed for the day.
