The Symphony Orchestra (Jason Seber, Music Director/Conductor), Repertory Orchestra (Craig M. Swatt, Conductor), Concert Orchestra (Chris Lerner, Conductor) and Percussion Ensemble (Mark Tate, Coach) of the Louisville Youth Orchestra will present "The First 50 Years: Rediscoveries." on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Brown Theatre located at 315 West Broadway. The concert will begin at 3:00 PM. Ticket prices are $20.00 for adults, $15.00 for senior citizens and $5.00 for students with a valid ID.
This performance will mark the opening of the LYO's 50th Anniversary Season. Guest artists Caroline Goulding, violin and Christopher O'Riley, piano and host of NPR's radio show "From the Top" will highlight the afternoon's events. The pair will present Felix Mendelssohn's Concerto for Violin, Piano and String in D minor accompanied by the LYO Symphony Orchestra. Other works on the program will include the Chorale from Mendelssohn's Symphony no. 5, Opus 107 "Reformation" and an orchestration by Jason Seber of Bach's Tocatta in D, BWV 538 "Dorian". The appearance of Caroline Goulding, violinist and Christopher O'Riley, pianist, is made possible by The Kentucky Center and Fund for the Arts with support by the Gheens Foundation as part of the Gheens Great Expectations Project.
The Louisville Youth Orchestra offers instruction for beginning to pre-professional orchestral players. Any student under age 21 who plays an orchestral instrument is welcome to audition.
