What do you get when you put together two powerhouses - of the jazz and classical worlds? The Louisville Orchestra’s new “Finale” event, the perfect bookend to the season-opening week-long Fanfara festival.
Every celebration deserves something special, and for Finale, the Orchestra is honored to present legendary trumpeter, Arturo Sandoval. Known for his years at the top of the charts in the straight-ahead jazz scene, where he worked most famously with Dizzy Gillespie and The United Nations Orchestra, Sandoval defected from Cuba while on tour in Europe and became a U.S. citizen n 1999.
The Grammy® award-winning trumpeter will perform two works with symphony; the John Williams Concerto for Trumpet and his own arrangement of “La Virgen de La Macarena.” Maestro Mester concludes this monumental cross-over concert with one of his favorite works in all the repertoire, Lutolawski’s epic Concerto for Orchestra as the climax of our season-long celebration of the 71 musicians who make the Louisville Orchestra distinctly “Louisville.”
This event will be the talk of the town as the Orchestra wraps up its 2009-10 season in grand style!
