The Louisville Orchestra is excited to announce a new series and two new partners with its new Summer Classics series.  These concerts are being produced with two extremely generous Kentuckiana partners; Ballard High School and the city of Jeffersonville.

This series features all classical programming, but kicks off with a special Independence Day Celebration on July 4 at the Jeffersonville RiverStage on the Ohio River.  This Fourth of July celebratory concert begins at 8pm led by associate conductor Jason Weinberger, featuring Sousa Marches and other patriotic favorites.

Then, beginning July 16 at 7pm the Louisville Orchestra will perform the same program at two very different and unique venues; Thursdays indoors at Ballard High School’s Sandy Allen Fine Arts Center and again on Saturdays outdoors at Jeffersonville’s RiverStage on the Ohio River.  These concerts will be under the baton of Jorge Mester, Music Director.

The Thursday performances at Ballard High School will be $10 and payable at the door or by calling in advance 502.587.8681. The performances on Saturday in Jeffersonville’s RiverStage are being performed for a suggested donation of $10.

The Louisville Orchestra’s CEO Brad Broecker said “We are really excited to be in Jeffersonville, a lot of people come to Louisville from Indiana for our concerts and many participate in the NightLites series at the Ogle Center at IUS.  With the support of the city of Jeffersonville, we are able to offer the Summer Classics Series in Indiana for free with a suggested donation of $10.  We are fully aware that ROARchestra will be missed.  We are hopeful that when the economy stabilizes, the Orchestra can consider performing at the zoo again.”

The times have been adjusted to accomodate for the bright summer sun setting in th West.  Louisville Orchestra CEO Rob Birman says “We just didn’t account for the sun.  Apparently due to the location of the barge, and the bend in the river, from 7pm – 8pm the entire string section would be blinded by the setting sun, which makes it impossible to follow a conductor.”
