Teddy Abrams has been doing some very different things in his first year as Louisville Orchestra conductor. He has made his home as center for music. He has used the orchestra and his personal talents to collaborate with all kinds of genres in this diverse city. He has even taken his keyboard and played on the street during CycLOUvia.

So it should come to no one’s surprise that to conclude the orchestra’s season, Abrams and the Louisville Orchestra have planned something big, big enough to shut down Main Street.

The Louisville Orchestra is hosting a block party. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs so they can view the orchestra performance inside Whitney Hall. Outdoor performances and telecast performance of the Louisville Orchestra will take place outside the Kentucky Center.

Other music during the block party include Louisville Leopard Percussionists, River City Drum Corp, AMPED students, Valley High School choir, 1200, The Tunesmiths, and Landfill Orchestra (a group of Hartstern Elementary students led by Teddy Abrams playing original music on instrument made from recyclable materials.

This event is free and open to the public. The block party's schedule is as follows:

5:00-5:30 pm        River City Drum Corp & Drum Battle
5:30-5:40 pm        Hartstern Elementary & Teddy Abrams   – Landfill  Orchestra
5:40-6:10 pm        Valley High School choir
    6:10-6:40 pm        AMPED students
    6:40-7:10 pm        Louisville Leopards
7:10-8:00 pm        Corn hole games, sidewalk chalk, Finger Derpy
8:00-10:00 pm      Concert simulcast on giant inflatable screen set up on Main Street
    10:00-10:30 pm    The Tunesmiths
    10:30-11:15 pm    1200

If you would like to view the orchestra’s performance inside Whitney Hall, you can purchase tickets here. They will be performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, John William’s Cowboy Overture, and, while joined by genre-defying string trio Time For Three, some pop to classical mash-ups including Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River,” Mumford & Sons’ “Little Lion Man,” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

The Louisville will open its 2015-2016 season on September 26. Some featured collaborators during the season include the Louisville Ballet, Bela Fleck, and Seth MacFarlane. They will also perform the music of Led Zeppelin on November 14.
