Two Louisville comedians have been accepted to participate in a comedy competition honoring the legendary Phyllis Diller. The all-female event will be raising funds to create a museum exhibit about her in her hometown of Lima, Ohio (at Lima Allen County Museum).
Janelle Fitzpatrick and I have been selected to perform our stand-up routines in the one day event on July 20 along with ten other female comedians. "Lima's Funniest Lady" will have a qualifying round at 2 pm. and four finalists will move on to the show at 8 p.m. Other comedians are coming from states all over the Midwest, including Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana to compete at Lima wine bar The Met, which is located at 306 N. Main St. Lima, Ohio. The first place winner will be taking home $200, a headline gig booking, and a trophy, while second place will take home $100 and a trophy.
The break between the competition rounds will include entertainment by Laughs in Middle America sketch and improv troupe from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees may buy tickets for an individual round of comedy for $10 or passes for the day for $25. The links to buy tickets can be found on the web site.
Participating comedians include:
Judee Brown
Mary Santora
Bettiny Lee
Brandi Alexander
Carla Brittain
Emily Allyn
Cararie Clouse
Janette Perez
Janelle Fitzpatrick
CoLee Davis
Courtney Kay Meyers
Divinity Rose
The collective credits of the ladies we're up against is impressive. They've written for Comic Bible (Janette Perez), Chicken Soup for the Soul (Emily Allyn), won Dayton's "Clash of the Comics" (Carla Brittain), and won a scholarship at Second City Detroit with first place in an improv competition (Brandi Alexander).
We Louisville girls have our work cut out for us. I think we can take 'em. Any questions can be directed to Limaland Comedy through their website.
