The University of Louisville announced that the 2012-13 basketball Cardinals (13-1, 1-0 Big East) have averaged great scores in the classroom as well as on the court. The collective grade point average for the Cards is 3.41 for the fall semester.
Even more impressive is the fact that 15 of the 17 players are at better than a 3.0. As the press release states, those are record numbers for the men’s basketball program when you consider that the collective GPA has been around 3.0 for nine semesters. That’s over 4 years. Then add in that 12 of those Cards have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and you’ve got some impressive student-athletes, emphasis on student.
This hasn’t gone unnoticed. During the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, the Cards took home Big East Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards. The award recognizes the highest GPAs in each of the 24 sports that comprise the Big East.
4th ranked Louisville takes those new accolades, and their basketball talent, on the road this Wednesday for their first conference road test against Seton Hall at 7pm at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. They return home to the KFC Yum! Center Saturday, January 12 for a match up with the University of South Florida at 4pm.
