Louisville Metro Mapper ranked fifth out of 122 projects in the first round of an international contest by Net Squared, sponsored by Cisco, to discover and fund internet projects that can empower individuals and foster community.   Metro Mapper’s project is called “Your Mapper.”  The final round of voting is this week and if Your Mapper continues to rank in the top twenty, funding, resources, and a trip to the conference in San Jose, California is guaranteed.

Metro Mapper is looking to the community of Louisvilleand Kentucky, and to users of the site, to vote in this final round.  Ranking in the contest would help Metro Mapper expand its services and launch a new, improved project called Your Mapper, which would allow community contributions and national coverage.  Founder, Michael Schnuerle, stated, “With this community’s support in the contest, Metro Mapper will become an empowering resource on the international scene.”

Help support Metro Mapper by voting for the project at www.netsquared.org/2008/conference/projects/your-mapper. You can also get more information on the project at www.metromapper.org/n2y3mashup.php

Founded in 2006, Metro Mapper LLC is an online news organization that provides free interactive maps and services for the community.  Metro Mapper gathers information from public sources and presents it on maps to empower local individuals to know what’s happening in their neighborhoods.  They also provide do-it-yourself and assisted services to allow community blogs and sites to place our maps on their sites for free.
