Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday will go beyond February 12th, 2009. Kentucky Crafted: The Market will continue the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial celebration by showcasing crafts, art prints, books and musical recordings commemorating the bicentennial and the Lincoln era (Booth D).
Visitors will also get to walk through the Kentucky Historical Society's HistoryMobile (a 45 foot long semitrailer) and experience "Kentucky's Abraham Lincoln" (Area E). The exhibit contains artifacts and images, as well as audio, video and interactive elements.
Children will have the opportunity to craft planters in the shape of Lincoln stovepipe hats in the Children and Family Traditions Area (Area F) which is also presented by the Kentucky Historical Society.
Food lovers can taste and purchase Lincoln's favorite treat, creamed pull candy from Mom Blakeman's Candy (Booth 838), one of many delicious specialty food producers exhibiting with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Kentucky Proud® program participants.
Saxton's Cornet Band will perform Civil War era music from the north and the south at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21st on the Blue Moon Stage.
Past Poets Laureate Jane Gentry Vance, Sena Jeter Naslund, Joe Survant and Richard Taylor will also be at The Market to give readings and sign copies of their books including "Abraham Lincoln of Kentucky" -- a collection of their poetry and prose recently published by the Kentucky Arts Council.
"Just as Kentuckians can be proud of living in the birth state of Abraham Lincoln, we can also be proud that the arts community has done such a fine job of honoring his legacy," said Lori Meadows, executive director of the Kentucky Arts Council. The Lincoln-related merchandise and activities at Kentucky Crafted: The Market are a part of the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission's celebration which continues through 2009.
