SATURDAY, AUGUST 23RD, 2008
LOUISVILLE, KY, JULY 31, 2008- The Dare to Care Food Bank and the Yum! Brands Foundation are once again partnering to combat hunger in our local community. Open to the public and geared toward motorcycle enthusiasts, the “Let it Ride Poker Run” is a fun way to raise awareness and funds for those individuals who are at risk of hunger in our community. “It’s unacceptable that one in five children in our community is at risk of going to be hungry each night,” said Laura Melillo Barnum, Executive Director of the Yum! Brands Foundation. “The Yum! Brands Foundation and Dare to Care Food Bank are committed to ending hunger in the Louisville area and this is just one more way we’re asking the community to help us with the mission of feeding Louisville’s hungry.”
The “Let it Ride Poker Run” takes place on Saturday, August 23rd and begins with registration at noon at the Yum! Brands Louisville Headquarters, 1900 Colonel Sanders Lane. The Run will finish at approximately 4:00 pm at the Dare to Care Food Bank Warehouse, 5803 Fern Valley Road. Along the scenic route, riders will stop and play a hand of Poker at participating Yum! Restaurants. Each participant may purchase a 5-card poker hand for a $10 donation. There is no limit to the number of hands per participant. Each will draw a card or cards from a standard card deck out of a bag (blind draw) with the best hand, second best hand and worst hand winning prizes. The fun will conclude at the Dare to Care Warehouse with live entertainment, facility tours, door prizes and great entertainment. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Dare to Care Food Bank.
This is another step in Yum! Brands’ on-going commitment to feed people in need. Yum! and its brands have been committed to fighting hunger for more than a decade by donating $50 million of prepared food annually to the underprivileged in the United States. The company has also been the primary sponsor of the Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville, donating $1 million annually for the past seven years to feed children at risk of hunger.
Dare to Care Food Bank is the largest food bank in Kentuckiana, delivering eight million pounds of food to over 90,000 needy people a year. Dare to Care’s food is distributed through 350 non-profit agencies in a 13 county area spanning Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Dare to Care Food Bank also operates fifteen Kids Café sites which serve over 75,000 meals a year to at-risk youth.
