Recently released from his Letter of Intent with the University of Tennessee, Kevin Ware made a lot of Cardinal fans happy by announcing a commitment to the University of Louisville on Tuesday.

Louisville has been pursuing Ware for a long time now and the relentless pursuit finally paid off for the Big East school.

“Kevin is excited about the opportunity to learn the game of basketball from Coach Pitino, who has been successful on every level. Kevin couldn’t pass on that opportunity. Kevin’s excited, we’re excited and Coach Pitino is excited,” says Ware’s stepfather.

It’s still too early to tell exactly how Ware’s commitment will affect prospect Juwan Staten’s interest in the Cardinals.

I would strongly encourage Cardinal fans not to celebrate the acquiring of the 88th ranked prospect too soon.  Ware has a history of getting cold feet at the last minute.  He has backed out of commitments with both Central Florida and the University of Tennessee.  Technically, Ware has agreed to sign a “Athletic Aid” commitment, which only binds U of L and not Ware.  So, if he chooses he could still back out.

With Louisville needing an extra bit of firepower heading into this winter, let’s hope Ware decides to stay.
