Louisville, KY (January 6, 2004) — From Pikeville to Paducah and Covington to Williamsburg, Kentucky high school students will soon have a shot at the limelight as a contest to promote the “GoHigherKy.org” Web site is launched state-wide.

The “30 Seconds Of Fame” competition, conceived by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEEA) and The Student Loan PeopleSM, kicks off January 7 and invites high school students to participate in the development of an ad campaign.

“Who better to promote a Web site designed to assist young people in college planning efforts than young people themselves,” said Meredith Robinson, Manager, Marketing Support & Special Projects Advisor. “We’re working with counselors and principals to help foster enthusiasm for the contest throughout their schools,” said Robinson.

Counselors are being encouraged to help formulate small teams consisting of no more than five students, who will be supervised by a faculty member. The means by which students are selected is left to the discretion of the faculty advisor.

By participating in this free contest, students get the opportunity to work hands-on with advertising professionals as they develop their campaigns. The campaign, which must include a thirty-second television commercial, an 8x11 print ad and a sixty-second radio spot, will be judged by communications professionals from KHEAA/The Student Loan People and New West, an integrated marketing firm based in Louisville, KY.

Students will develop campaign elements between January 24 and February 18. Competition judging takes place the week of February 21, with the winning team being notified on or before March 28. A $1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winning school and a $500 cash prize will be awarded to the faculty advisor who guides the winning team.

To sign up for the contest, or to obtain more information, please call toll-free, 888.678.4625 or go to www.GoHigherKY.org.
