After two very warm days in Kentuckiana, a strong cold front will be sweeping its way through the region, bringing with it a good chance for thunderstorms and severe weather. Severe weather is defined by surface wind gusts exceeding 50 knots (60 m.p.h.), or hail size exceeding three quarters of an inch.
Most of us won’t mind the passing weather so much, but the big temperature adjustment is expected to make people complain.
This weather episode will be one of those situations where people will say something like, “The Ohio Valley weather is crazy! It's 80F one day and 40F the next.” Well, that’s how it goes this time of year. It’s not crazy to have big swings in temperature in the early spring. In fact, the average high temperature is only 59F, so what is actually extreme are the warm temperatures exceeding 20 degrees above normal.
Michelle Stieler was on 4th Street handing out Qdoba street taco coupons and admits the abrupt changes in temperatures are something to loathe.
Stieler said, “I hate it. I wish it would stay nice all the time. This up and down, up and down it kinda sucks.”
Stieler acknowledged that performing Qdoba’s street taco promotion when it was cold, would likely not produce the same kind of results.
The tug of war between spring and winter will continue into May, each altercation between the seasons capable of producing weather that surely everyone will be talking about. In the meantime, don’t put away that cool weather gear just yet.
The National Weather Service says that the main weather concerns are: destructive hail, damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and dangerous cloud to ground lightning.
