No, dodgeball is not a complicated game; however, it wouldn't be a game without rules. So before you set foot onto the court, here are some ground rules for you and your opposing teams to review.

    • Players all must be 18 or older
    • Teams must contain 6 players; no more, no less
    • Teams may be co-ed or all male or female
    • Teams are responsible for creating uniforms.
    • Creativity is encouraged. Teams wearing uniforms with inappropriate language or illustrations, or excessive nudity including bare midriffs, are unacceptable and will result in disqualification from the tournament.

Whoever is designated as the “Team Captain” on the team’s registration form, will be responsible for receiving any information that Louisville.com and/or Basketball Academy sends out between the time of registration and the event date and disbursing the information to his/her teammates. With that said, please make sure the “Team Captain” has his/her correct e-mail address on the registration form.

    Dodgeball Match Rules

    • Two teams per match; 32 teams in bracket competing
    • The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner. A 3-minute time limit has been established for each match. If neither team has been eliminated at the end of the 3 minutes, the team with the greater number of players remaining will be declared the winner and move on in the bracket

    • Each team may set their own formations; however, all six players must be on the court at the start of each match

    • Players must never cross the dividing line

    • The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them "OUT". This may be done by:

    1.      Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders.

    2.      Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground.Definition: LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything, including the floor/ground, another ball, another player, official or other item outside of the playing field (wall, ceiling, etc)

    • Once a player is hit he/she must sit on the sidelines for the remainder of the round
    • If a teammate catches an opposing player's throw he/she may designate one teammate who is out to return to the game
    • Players who hit someone in the head must sit out the current round with no substitution or chance of re-entry
    • 5-SECOND VIOLATION In order to reduce stalling, a violation will be called if a team in the lead controls all six (6) balls on their side of the court for more than 5 seconds. This also applies to tied teams.

Great Job! Now get on the court and Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive, and...Dodge!
