For those of us who have an ongoing love affair with the hamburger, this post is for you. While my food obsessed dialog can frustrate or bore some of my friends, the conversation of the perfect burger is something that seems more widely acceptable; specifically, who makes the best one.
I've tried burgers all over this town though I haven't had them all. I've largely sought out these burgers due to recommendations from friends or because of their ingredients (I favor places that use local and/or grass fed meat). Some of my more popular burger destinations have included Bluegrass Burgers, Holy Grale, Proof, Eiderdown, and Cumberland Brewery. My favorites have changed from time to time, but all of the aforementioned are delicious and worthy of the calorie consumption. Regardless of the array of delightful options here in Louisville, KY, I find that I have a long time reigning champion.
Nothing beats Harvest's burger. While other restaurants use similar ingredients, no burger seems to equal the amazing symphony that the Harvest burger sings into my mouth. The burger hosts a chewy pretzel bun that hugs a generous grass fed beef patty, completely blanketed with a delicious smoky and salty hog jowl jam which ensures that each delectable bite doesn't miss that so satisfying savory bacon flavor. It is then crowned with a perfect quenelle of tangy and smooth goat cheese. It's so perfect that I sometimes don't add the softly bitter, nutty leaves of lettuce served along with it, but it's good either way. Time stops for this burger.
Despite all that swooning, I'm still open to continuing my excursions for perfect burgers. What's your favorite? I feel like the perfect burger is like finding the perfect boyfriend or girlfriend, sometimes it's all about the fit. In case you didn't gather from this review, I'm not breaking up with Harvest any time soon.
