Cricket Press is a tiny operation geared towards designing and hand printing silk-screened posters for music events, art shows and propaganda. It was founded by artists Brian & Sara Turner, who come to printmaking from backgrounds involving all sorts of creative media - from illustration to photography, graphic design to woodworking. When they finished their first concert poster in 2003, they wanted to sign it with the name of their studio. The problem was they didn't have a studio, just the dream of a studio. What they did have was a small workspace in their damp basement, which was infested with crickets. In a moment of whimsy, Cricket Press was born. They recently published their first book, The Hand-Printed Art of Cricket Press!, is a 154-page collection of gig posters and art-prints from 2003-2009, with a wonderful intro written by Lexington’s Matt Jordon of You Ain’t No Picasso.
