The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will host a gallery talk titled Portrait of the Artist as a Collector by local collage and assemblage artist Caroline Waite on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 6:00pm. The lecture is free for museum members and $5 for non-members, and is part of the Museum’s Artists Collect exhibition, which will be on display January 22 through March 12, 2011.
Caroline will talk about her own passion for collecting, referencing the intriguing psychology of "the collector" through history, and how her wealth of accumulated "stuff" gives her joy and informs her work as an artist. Guests will also have the chance to view her largest public wall installation – a giant, female figure, standing over 8 feet tall and brimming with small, colorful objects. Hundreds of items from the artist’s collection, accumulated over the last decade, have been used to create the stylized 'self portrait.'
