Hundreds will be walking.  Everyone will be rocking.  And some very special kids in wheelchairs will be ROLLING for a cause.     It’s all part of the second annual “Walk, Rock and Roll for K.I.D.S,” a 5k Walk and rock concert  that starts and ends at Fourth Street Live on Saturday, May 20, 2006.   Proceeds from the event benefit the Kentuckiana Institute of Developmental Services, or “K.I.D.S. Center.”

Participants include companies, civic groups, schools, and families served by the K.I.D.S. Center.   Hundreds of walkers will support one of over 30 “Rock Star” volunteers.    These special volunteers plan to either shave their head, dye their hair, or sing a song on stage when they meet a fundraising goal of $4,000 for adults and $500 for youth.    “We’re blessed to have these great ambassadors for our kids,” said Dave Ramer, executive director of the K.I.D.S. Center.    Ramer, who made his own rock star debut last year in the first event, has again put his locks on the line.   Images Salon, an event sponsor, will trim/and or dye the hair of each Rock Star on stage during the post-event concert.    Walkers will be treated to music before the event, along the route,  and at the finish with a free concert by the Rumors.  Following the event will be a special concert by alumni from the MOMS Music Rock School from 1-5:00 p.m.

Proceeds from the walk will help the Center provide its outpatient therapy services for children who cannot afford to pay for their care.   “We were started by a group of parents that had a philosophy of not turning any child away because of money.  This walk is what helps us be able to do that,”added Ramer.   Sponsors of the walk include:Citi (title), Norton Healthcare, National City Bank (Platinum), Papa John’s (Gold), Images Salon, Dana Reinhardt Insurance, Kerr-Greulich Engineers, Kosair Charities, and Stock Yards Bank (silver).   To find out how to get involved, contact the Center at (502) 635-6397 or visit their website at www.cpkidscenter.com.
