A four-run seventh inning carried the Rochester Red Wings past the Louisville Bats 4-3 Sunday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.
It was the fourth loss in the last five games for the Bats (14-23), who had a five-game win streak from May 7-11.
Things looked good for Louisville, though, through the first six innings. Starter Matt Maloney gave up just three hits, while striking out five, in the first five innings.
The Bats scored two runs in the second inning, one thanks to a pair of errors by Rochester shortstop Trevor Plouffe.
Louisville added another run in the sixth when Drew Sutton led off with a single, moved to second on Chris Valaika's single then scored on Wilkin Castillo's double. The Bats, however, couldn't score Valaika from third. That proved to be a problem for Louisville, which stranded nine baserunners to the Red Wings' six.
In the seventh Bats reliever Ben Jukich (1-2) gave up four straight singles to start the inning, then following a strikeout he walked in a run. He was replaced by Chad Reineke, who walked in another run then gave up the game-winning RBI-single to Brian Dinkelman.
Tim Lahey (2-1) picked up the win for the Red Wings (15-22) with 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
Yonder Alonso and Valaika led Louisville with two hits apiece.
The Bats and the Red Wings close out their four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Monday night at Frontier Field.
