Donuts are the new cupcake, and they’re popping up on menus all over Louisville. Here are five you should sink your teeth into.

    1. Bourbon caramel glazed donut topped with applewood smoked bacon and chocolate drizzle
    Hi-Five Doughnuts
Check Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for location and hours

The “ladies of the morning” of Hi-Five Doughnuts will be slingin’ the glazed goodness at Louder Than Life Festival this weekend. You can always build your own indulgent pastry at Hi-Five, but you should 100% try any creation owners Annie Harlow and Leslie Wilson suggest. These girls know their stuff.

    2. Cinnamon sugar twist
    2118 S Preston St
    Louisville, Kentucky
    634-0931
Since Nord’s is home to the #instafamous maple bacon donut, their other donuts don’t get enough love. But these sugar cinnamon twists are everything you could want in a morning treat: light, soft and not overwhelmingly sweet. Get there early, they sell out fast on the weekends!

    3. Vanilla iced with sprinkles
    Clifton Donut Shop
    2317 Brownsboro Rd
    Louisville, Kentucky
    749-6896

Somehow, Clifton Donut Shop isn’t widely known and flooded with business every single day...yet. Better get in there before the brunching masses find this hidden gem. You can pretty much judge a bakery by the simplest thing on their menu, and both the plain glazed and the vanilla iced donuts speak well of Clifton Donut Shop.

    4. Rosemary olive oil donut made with local Oliva Bella oil
    La Peche
    1147 Bardstown Rd
    Louisville, Kentucky
    451-0377

It’s almost unfair to include this confection on this list because there’s no guarantee it will be at La Peche today. Lilly Cary slings gourmet donuts for La Peche on the weekly. Her treats often have creative flavors like strawberry cardamom and potato (with browned butter frosting) - you can follow her Instagram or Twitter to see what she’s cooking up today.

    5. Chocolate iced raspberry donut
Adrienne & Co. Donuts and Desserts
    5801 Highway 150 # US
    Floyds Knobs, Indiana
    923-0011

Okay, technically Adrienne & Co. has both outposts in Southern Indiana. But these treats are well worth the drive over the bridge and through the construction.
