MEDFORD, Ore. — Charlie Battery: A Marine Artillery Unit in Iraq, the latest release from Hellgate Press (www.hellgatepress.com), chronicles a Marine Corps artillery unit’s fight for survival in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“I channeled my pride — and my worry — into this book,” says Andrew Lubin, author and father of one of Charlie Battery’s Marines. “It’s hard to go about your everyday business knowing your son is in harm’s way. Somehow, documenting first-hand accounts of their battles and struggles helped me cope.”

But this is not just a book about battles. It provides a unique perspective of the war, not only from the front lines, but also from the home front. It is a personal account of a Marine unit as it prepares for deployment, fights on the front lines and returns home.

“It’s about war. It’s about Marines. It’s about family,” says Lubin. Through revealing interviews with the Marines, their commanding officers and parents, Lubin offers a glimpse into the realities of the Iraq War. Readers learn what it was like from those who experienced it — and from loved ones back home who watched it unfold live on television.

“Charlie Battery reminds us of the depth of love between father and son; and that there is no limit to the tenacity and courage of a United States Marine,” says Steven J. Greer, retired Army command sergeant major and military consultant for FOX News Channel.

“This battle was won by the courage of these young Marines…this book is their story,” says Gen Al Gray, USMC ( Ret ), 29th Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Max Boot, a senior fellow for National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, says that the book will “take its place alongside many other tomes as a chronicle of Marine courage and fortitude under fire.”

Bob Spear of the online book review source, “Heartland Reviews,” calls Charlie Battery “an extraordinarily well documented account of what happened in the war to bring freedom to Iraq.”

Andrew Lubin is a professor at the American Military University in Charles Town, West Virginia, where he teaches courses in economics, logistics and international trade. In addition, he manages an international consulting business with offices in Shanghai, Bucharest and the United States. Lubin currently lives and writes in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

In addition to his appearance as a featured author at this year’s 2005 SOKY Book Fest, to be held in Bowling Green, Kentucky, April 15-16, Lubin has been making the media rounds including a number of appearances on New York radio’s The Joey Reynolds Show, television’s Good Morning Philadelphia ( WPVI, ABC 6 ), as well as the University of Virginia’s prestigious Va. BookFest in March 2005.

Charlie Battery: A Marine Artillery Unit in Iraq ($16.95, paperback, ISBN: 1555716423) is available through Barnes and Noble and other major bookstores, online at Amazon.com and others, or direct from the publisher at www.hellgatepress.com.
