I joined Facebook for the first time a few weeks ago. I think I may have been the last person on earth without an account.
Of course I had my reasons for resisting the hype, first and foremost being the fact that everyone else was doing it. But soon, being a rebel without a Facebook page caught up with me, and I realized that I couldn't hold out any longer.
Ultimately, one of the main reasons I joined was because of local restaurants. One of my favorite spots, Wiltshire On Market (636 E. Market St.), was using Facebook to update their ever changing menu. Once I got over my fear of this phenomenon I realized it was the perfect way to bring a chalkboard-type menu into the 21st century.
Many Louisville restaurants are using Facebook to connect with their diners. You can read about the evening's specials before you arrive at the restaurant. Even finding the best happy hour deal in town is getting easier.
Bank Street Brewhouse's (415 Bank St., New Albany) page will let you know about their weekly drink specials and what nights you can munch on some duck confit macaroni and cheese. Wiltshire On Market mentioned something about having their very own charcutepallooza; count me in. You can even find out how your favorite dishes are made. A comment on Hammerheads'(921 Swan St.) page says they use Cherry and Apple wood in their smoker.
I hope more Louisville restaurants will jump on the Facebook bandwagon in an attempt to keep their fans informed and excited about their food.
Go ahead and search for your favorite restaurant. You may just like what you find.
