LOUISVILLE (Jan. 28, 2005) - Whether it's a corporate event, neighborhood block party, charity walk, wedding reception or church picnic; coordinators that plan events in Louisville Metro can learn about the services available to make their event successful.

The Mayor's Event Expo is set for Saturday, Feb. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kentucky International Convention Center, Halls 1-A and 1-B.

"Louisville is a wonderful city for celebrations, and we want to help our residents host successful and enjoyable events," Mayor Jerry Abramson said.  "The Event Expo will bring together in one place all the Metro Government services available for events, as well as provide an opportunity to network with many event vendors and suppliers."

Exhibitors will include a variety of event services, including caterers, decorators, novelty suppliers, audio-visual services, staging companies, event venues, printers and entertainers.

Expo attendees can learn about Metro Government event services such as

    ·        How to get a street-closure permit

    ·        Requirements regarding food permits or alcohol sales

    ·        How to reserve a Metro Parks shelter

    ·        Where to rent bleachers, waste baskets or portable toilets

    ·        Permits required to hold a parade

    ·        Regulations for charitable gaming.

Some caterers will provide samples and other event suppliers will provide demonstrations including jugglers, Radio Disney's Extreme Team, and acoustic musicians.

Admission to the Mayor's Event Expo is free and includes a copy of the 2005 Mayor's Special Events Event Handbook.  Advance registration suggested in order to get the handbook.  For information or advance registration, call 574-5220.
