    FADE IN:

    INT. BEDROOM– NIGHT

ASHLIE is in a dimly lit room, sitting on a bed scattered with tissues. Her dog, PHOEBE, sits to the side. There is a laptop open to Web MD.

    ASHLIE

    (muttering as she types)

Runny nose. Fever. Scratchy throat. Sore

    throat. Sneezing. Hacking....

Ashlie proceeds to cough emphatically three times, then reaches for one of the tissues on her bed.

    ASHLIE (CONT’D)

    ...cough. And, search!

Ashlie waits for the Web MD results to load. Phoebe stretches lackadaisically.

    ASHLIE

Ah—here we go. I have nasopharyngitis, rhinopharyngitis, acute coryza, or simply [pause] a common cold... And [another pause] there is no cure.

Ashlie looks dolefully out the window, a single tear rolling down her check. Phoebe stretches lackadaisically.

Alright, so maybe a cold isn’t as dramatic as all that, but, in the moment, when you are sniffling, coughing and shivering—without the hope of any quick-fix medication—it can feel pretty terrible.

Enter CHICKEN SOUP, the common cold cure-all.

Here’s a list of some of Louisville’s starring soups to get you feeling better next time you feel under the weather.

Chicken Noodle Soup—Steven & Stevens Delicatessen

A delicious incarnation of the classic get-well-soon dish, with thin noodles, steaming chicken broth and chunks of fresh carrots and onion. Not to mention you can buy a whole quart to-go for $8.00.

    Pho Ga—Vietnam Kitchen

Vietnam Kitchen’s pho ga is a sure-fire way to drown out a common cold. Served in a bowl that could easily feed two, the chicken broth is satisfyingly spiced and acidic, with hints of lime, peppers, and charred onion. Topped with shredded chicken and linguine-shaped rice noodles, this is a must-try.

    Sopa Azteca—El Mundo

This cravable, brothy soup is garnished with organic, shredded chicken, creamy avocado, lime, crunchy tortilla strips and jalepeno. It’s just spicy enough to seemingly open your sinuses for a few brief breaths.

Avgolemono Chicken Soup—Chef Maria’s Greek Deli

Chef Maria’s Avgolemono, or egg-lemon, soup includes egg and lemon juice mixed with chicken broth and heated until thickened. This version includes shredded chicken and orzo—resulting in a creamy, flavorful comfort food.

    Chicken and Rice Soup—Cafe Mimosa

Shredded chicken with rice in a chicken broth topped with vegetable oil, pepper and green onion. This is my go-to sick soup—it’s not too terribly spicy, with the only real kick coming from the green onion, but the chicken is so tender and flavorful after simmering in the light broth for hours. And the rice = perfection.

And with that, get well soon, Louisville lovelies! Did I miss your favorite comforting chicken soup? Have any other go-to get well soon foods? Let us know in the comments section or tweet us @louisvillecom!
