Giddy-up! The beginning of Derby season officially begins in . . . January?
That’s right and it all starts with a poster. The Kentucky Derby Festival will be hosting the 32nd Annual Derby Festival Poster Premiere on Wednesday, January 25th at The Henry Clay Building. This event is open to the public and will begin at 5:30 p.m. Expect cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary gift will be given to the first 1,000 guests. There will also be a silent auction of framed 2012 Official Posters and the unveiling of 2012 Official Kentucky Derby Festival Merchandise.
Artist Andre Foreman
André Foreman is the artist responsible for the 2012 Kentucky Derby Festival Poster. He holds a studio space at Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center and works mostly with oil and watercolors. He recently had a solo exhibition at Gallery M in Mellwood called Ode To Woman: The Poetics of Movement. He uses the Asian style known as Sumi-e where painting ink to paper produces simple and elegant lines with dramatic fluidity. This style should pair well with the drama of the fastest two minutes in sports. Foreman will be on hand for the event to sign copies of the 2012 Poster.
For the sixth year in a row, the Poster Premiere will also feature the Derby Festival Student Art Contest Awards Ceremony. Students K-12 of public, private and parochial schools in Jefferson, Oldham, Clark and Floyd Counties and other surrounding Counties were invited to participate. The winners will have their artwork displayed at the Poster Premiere. A collage poster of the winning Art Contest entries will also be available at the event.
Tickets for the Premiere are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Call (866)636-0068 OR (502)584-Fest or buy online at kdf.org/events-Poster-Premiere.
The Henry Clay Building is located at 604 S. Third Street, (502)515-2489.
