Where else can people see 24,000 ducks race down the Ohio River? It all happens at the 5th Annual Ken- Ducky Derby Festival on September 27th at Waterfront Park. All proceeds from the event support the Harbor House of Louisville.
The Ken Ducky Derby is a one-of-a-kind event that allows people to adopt one of the thousands of available ducks for a cost $5 per quack. If you’re feeling really generous (or really unlucky), you can also buy packs of ducks in bulk, from 6 ducks for $25, all the way up to $100 for 30 ducks. If your lucky duck wins the race, the grand prize is a 2008 Honda Civic, while second place includes a week stay at a camping resort in Gatlinburg and the 3rd place winner brings home an 8-day riverbarge cruise.
While the event centers around the official duck race which begins at 2 pm, the festival actually begins at 10 am with live entertainment and plenty of family fun. There will be games and face painting for the kids as well as arts and crafts booths, food and drinks. And, don’t be surprised if you run into a life-sized duck or even a clown or two as you take in an entire day of fun on the waterfront.
All money raised from the Ken-Ducky Derby & Maeser Family Festival benefits the Harbor House of Louisville, which provides the highest quality of care for developmentally disabled adults. Harbor House is committed to a respectful and compassionate, family-centered approach in providing a positive atmosphere for all of its participants.
